What is a selective androgen receptor modulator?

bodybuilder slang

Before we take a closer look at answering, ‘how long do SARMs stay in your system?’, it’s important to gain an understanding of what SARMs really are, and how they work.

Similar to anabolic steroids, SARMs have risen in popularity in recent years. They work by binding to androgen receptors, triggering changes in your DNA that stimulate muscle growth. SARMs are “tissue selective” androgen receptor stimulators, meaning they target your muscles without setting off the same chain of reactions as steroids would.

However, despite appearing to deliver a huge amount of muscle mass and fewer side effects, there are certainly some things to look out for when delving into these types of ‘dietary supplements’.

Why use SARMs?

Many bodybuilders claim that, unlike anabolic steroids, SARMs have fewer and milder side effects. In bodybuilding circles, SARMs are incredibly popular for their ability to boost muscle growth, fire up metabolism for cutting fat and enhance performance.

Many athletes and bodybuilders rely on SARMs during sport and competitive bodybuilding, despite their illegal status. If you’re concerned about SARMs being detected, keep reading to learn more about their detection window and, how drug tests work and info from the World Anti Doping Agency.

How long are SARMs detectable?

Despite being prohibited by the World Anti Doping Agency, SARMs are very much still alive and present in bodybuilding circles. Although they are not legal to use in a competitive setting, or at all recommended really – since bodybuilding isn’t their original intention – many worry about how long SARMs are detectable for.

Yep, we’re back to the popular ol’ question: How long do SARMs stay in your system?

What can affect the detection window of SARMs?

When trying to establish how long SARMs stay in your system for, it’s important to recognise that these types of supplements can have different effects on people based on a variety of factors.

While some users may report the half life of SARMs as being relatively short, others might notice that these powerful selective androgen receptor modulators stick around for a little longer. Since a SARM’s half life is the time it takes for the drug’s active substances to be reduced by half, it allows us to predict the time for the drug to disappear entirely.

What else is there to consider? Well, as well as the factors below (weight, metabolic rate, genetics etc), some users of SARMs have said that the detection window of SARMs means you must have had 3x dosage within the last 10 days for a test to show them in your system.

How long do SARMs stay in your system?

Do we believe it, though? The trouble is, we all experience the effects of SARMs, their side effects and even their half life differently. Sure, you’re eager to know, ‘how long do SARMs stay in your system?’ but unfortunately, it kinda depends.

In other words, it’s better to be safe than sorry if you’re concerned about being flagged for drug abuse and you’re looking to compete. These synthetic substances may well burn fat and support muscle mass growth, but they’re not technically fit for human use – in a bodybuilding setting, anyway.

Here’s what may affect how long SARMs stay in your system.

Weight

The higher your weight, the quicker the half life of SARMs, meaning they don’t stay in your system too long. With the half life (the time it takes for your body to reduce the SARM’s active substance by half) reduced, they’ll be gone from your system in no time.

If you’re a skinny dude, SARMs are going to hang around in your body a little longer, taking longer to be expelled from your system.

Now you can see why the detection window of SARMs kinda depends – with weight being a huge factor in how long they stay in your system.

Metabolic rate

Now, this is a factor often overlooked when it comes to answering, ‘how long are SARMs detectable for?’ However, it is certainly an important one.

You’ve probably read about metabolic rate before now, but in the context of SARMs half life and detection, if you have a fast metabolism, SARMs won’t stay in your system as long compared to someone with a slower metabolism.

Several factors affect your metabolism, including age, gender, hormones and level of physical activity.

Genetics

If you’re concerned about answering, ‘how long do SARMs stay in your system?’ I’m afraid there’s not much you can do about genetics as an influence on their half life.

But your genetics do play a part!

Dosage

While SARMs users have reported lean muscles, insane muscle growth, enhanced performance, you name it – the dosage you use matters when it comes to how long they stay in your system.

At 100mgs per day, for example, RAD 140 has shown to have a half life of around 60 hours. If you reduce the dosage, you’re unlikely to experience the same muscle mass gains and positive effects, but it also means the SARM won’t stay in your system as long.

Different SARMs: How long do SARMs stay in your system?

The detection windows of different SARMs can vary, but with little scientific data in their use (for bodybuilders), much of the evidence is anecdotal.

Nonetheless, here’s what we’ve found and learned from bodybuilders using these research compounds – and how long they’re likely to stay in your system.

Popular safe and legal steroid and SARMs alternatives

Ostarine

After last consumption, Ostarine has shown to be detected in a urine test up to nine days later. With Ostarine metabolites easily found in this detection window, if you’re looking to compete it’s worth allowing a 10 day detection window to get Ostarine out of your system.

You can also check out our review of Ostarine, covering its benefits, uses and dosage.

Ligandrol

During an investigation into the metabolism of Ligandrol in human studies, the detection window of Ligandrol was found to be 22 days during a urine test.

Despite a similar half life between Ligandrol and Ostarine, Ligandrol’s detection window is substantially longer.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that bodybuilders should allow at least 30 days to rid their system of Ligandrol.

Read more on Ligandrol (LGD 4033).

RAD 140

Although we touched upon the half life and dosage possibilities of RAD 140 earlier, it’s important to recognise the research carried out into its half life and detection window.

One study has revealed that RAD 140 can stay in your system and be detected for up to eight days, after a single 10mg dosage. Crazy, huh?

Since there is little research into these types of substances from a bodybuilder’s perspective, who knows what the detection window could be after an eight week cycle, for example.

Stenabolic

At present, there is little information and research into the metabolites and detection window of SR9009. However, in terms of drugs testing, Stenabolic can be traced in urine tests.

The small amount of research available was some time ago, however, testing methods have improved since then no doubt.

Since there’s no real info on how long Stenabolic stays in your system, if we went by user experience we’d hazard a guess at two to three weeks.

Cardarine

One of the most common questions we hear about this SARM is ‘how long does Cardarine stay in your system?’

When put up against similar compounds (GW0742), Cardarine showed to have 10x the number of metabolites in urine.

Research into the detection of Cardarine metabolites has shown it can be traced for up to 40 days. So if you’re looking to use this SARM for muscle mass gains and you’re aiming to compete, I’d steer clear.

Read more on how long Cardarine takes to work.

YK11

A study carried out on the in vivo metabolism of YK11 found that unconjugated metabolites in urine vanished within the first 24 hours. However, other metabolites could still be traced for 48 hours or longer.

If we take a look at anecdotal evidence, bodybuilders report YK11 being totally out of your system in about a week or two. If I were you, I’d allow at least 14 days.

Read more on what to expect using YK11.

S23

Having failed to undergo any human studies, there’s no real scientific data on S23 and how long it may stay in your system for.

If we had to estimate, I’d say around 15 to 20 days from your last consumption.

MK677

Many bodybuilders are concerned about a MK 677 drug test, especially since studies have shown just one 10mg dose of MK 677 (Ibutamoren) was traceable two weeks later.

We’re not just talking about one metabolite, either, but multiple traces of ‘drug abuse’ were found.

Concerned about a MK 677 drug test? Be warned, a single dose will flag up! Read more on the side effects, benefits and uses of MK 677.

Different types of drug test

We’ve all seen a drug test being carried out on TV, but when it comes to being tested for SARMs ourselves, heck, we wanna run for the hills.

If you’re concerned about the different types of tests, keep reading, as you’ll quickly find out more about SARMs half life and answers to the following:

  • How long are SARMs detectable in hair tests
  • Blood tests and SARMs
  • Urine testing for SARMs
  • Saliva tests

Blood test

If you’re worried about undergoing a drug test, you haven’t got too much to worry about where a blood test is concerned.

While a blood test will pick up on signs of lowered hormones (which can occur after a SARMs cycle without PCT), especially LH and SHBG, it cannot necessarily determine your use of SARMs.

Urine test

The most commonly used drug test, a urine test is the most obvious choice if you’re ever going to be tested for SARMs use.

Saliva test

At the moment, there are no real estimates as to how long SARMs may stay in your saliva. However, if we were to hazard a guess, we’d say around 12 hours.

Hair tests

If you’re questioning, ‘how long are SARMs detectable?’, and you’re concerned about a drug test, hair tests are what’s going to catch you out.

So much so, that hair tests can detect SARMs up to two in your hair follicles. So if you’re thinking, ‘how long do SARMs stay in your system?’ and you’re likely to undergo a hair test, steer clear of SARMs for two months.

SARMs in the military

Unless you’re ostentatious about your usage of SARMs, SARMs are not typically tested for in the military.

This means that SARMs in the military are likely to go somewhat unnoticed, unless it’s pretty damn obvious there are signs of drug abuse. After all, SARMs are considered a form of drug, especially since being prohibited by the World Anti Doping Agency.

In fact, SARMs are illegal for everyday use. Since many SARMs were first developed for medical conditions, the only way these types of drugs find their way onto the market is:

  • Sold as ‘dietary supplements’
  • When they are sold as research chemicals
  • Sold illegally

What do drug tests look for?

It’s not just SARMs that a SARMs drugs test will look for. Other steroids, prohormones and other androgen related compounds will also show.

A SARMs drugs test is pretty expensive, and typically only used by sport institutions that may suspect the use of SARMS.

Your everyday drug test typically test for twelve of the most commonly abused substances, commonly referred to as the ’12 panel cup test’. We’re talking cocaine, benzodiazepines, marijuana and methamphetamines.

The bottom line

We hope we’ve answered the burning question: ‘How long do SARMs stay in your system?’

The truth is, if you want to past a SARMs urine test, blood test, or whatever it may be, either don’t take any SARMs for 30 days to ensure they’re out of your system, or avoid them entirely.

There is no way to trick a test for SARMs – you’re better off cutting down your usage to ensure they’re out of your system, or avoiding their use completely.

Why risk it? Opt for safe, legal SARMs alternatives

The majority of those concerned about ‘how long do SARMs stay in your system?’ will typically have nothing really to worry about, unless they’re being specifically tested for SARMs use.

Usually, a SARMs drug test is only used by sports institutions, since SARMs are prohibited by the World Anti Doping Agency.

But why risk the detection windows and potential side effects of SARMs?

Here at Brutal Force, we understand how important building HUGE muscle mass is to you. Which is why we’ve carefully developed 100% natural and safe alternatives to bodybuilding SARMs. So you can experience SERIOUS GROWTH, with the worry of drug testing, side effects or needles.
