Andarine side effects: S-4 Benefits, Uses, Dosage (SARMS)

Frequently called Andarine, ‘Andarine S4’ or even ‘S4 SARM’, Andarine was originally developed to treat muscle wasting and osteoporosis. This SARM (selective androgen receptor modulator) is a type of investigational drug that hasn’t yet been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Now-popular SARMs were developed in the 1990s, with Andarine working to target androgen receptors situated in muscle and bones tissues.

As well as osteoporosis, there has also been mention of S4 SARM being used to treat cancer, sexual dysfunction, Alzheimer’s disease and even multiple sclerosis.

However, despite these medicinal purposes, it comes as no surprise that Andarine S4 has made its way into the bodybuilding world. Having been abandoned from early human clinical trials due to safety concerns, will liquid S4 really get you the gains you want?

We take a closer look at Andarine S4 and the potential S4 SARM side effects.

What is Andarine S4?

As part of a family called SARMs, Andarin S4 is an investigational compound developed to treat muscle wasting, osteoporosis and cancer – amongst multiple other medical conditions.

With little research into human consumption, we are yet to truly know potential Andarine side effects long term.

However, in early research, Andarine was studied via animals, with this drug found to have high oral bioavailability and muscle and bone-building effects. During studies, it was found to both reverse muscle wasting and bone degeneration as well as increase bone mineral density.

In addition to its medicinal purposes, Andarine S4 has shown potential benefits for prostate health when tested on male rats.

Since it has the ability to help its user maintain muscle and boost muscle growth, Andarine S4 has quickly been adopted by bodybuilders.

How does S4 Andarine work?

Since Andarine S4 was designed to help fight muscle wasting, Andarine works by attaching to proteins in the body (androgen receptors), signalling muscles and bones to grow.

With a high affinity for the androgen receptor (AR), S4 SARM mimics the effects of testosterone. However, this impact is far stronger in muscles and bones than in reproductive organs.

Due to this, Andarine and other popular SARMs are considered to have fewer side effects when compared to anabolic steroids.

However, we wouldn’t take these theories as proof just yet. While bodybuilders may believe that SARMs such as Andarine and Ostarine are safer compared to illegal anabolic steroids – neither have passed proper clinical trials.

In short, Andarine S4 and other SARM drugs tell your muscles to grow, but what results can you really expect?

S4 SARM results

With Andarine having never been properly tested on humans, there is certainly a grey area as to its real effects and potential side effects.

Designed to help patients quickly build muscle and bone density, trials that may have dabbled in S4 SARM were predominantly elderly patients with muscle wasting disorders.

Since Andarine is more ‘specific’, there is less damage potential to your liver and prostate – plus, with no ‘masculising of features’, female bodybuilders are less likely to start growing a beard. Unlike anabolic steroids which have a much higher oestrogen release, Andarine S4 escapes this effect, meaning no man boobs or water retention.

But does this all sound too good to be true?

What makes liquid S4 so attractive? When compared to bodybuilding steroids, Andarine S4 is often considered a milder drug. Even with a low dose over a few weeks, you’ll quickly notice reduced body fat and more defined muscle.

Potential to increase muscle mass

Originally developed to prevent muscle wasting and encourage muscle growth, animal studies have shown that Andarine S4 has the power to boost muscle growth and strength.

In a study on castrated rats, liquid S4 showed to increase muscle weight as effectively as DHT (dihydrotestosterone). Plus, Andarine S4 caused no prostate concerns, which is often a common side effect of popular steroids.

Widely used in bodybuilding circles, Andarine S4 has been shown to boost muscle growth in just a matter of weeks, when combined with a healthy diet and training regime.

As well as having the ability to boost muscle growth, S4 SARM is also known for its power to harden muscles, helping you to achieve a ripped physique pretty quickly.

Reduce body fat

While Andarine has the ability to help you gain iron-hard muscle, liquid S4 is also commonly used during a cut. As well as its power to increase strength and bone density, Andarine increases fat breakdown, even helping shift stubborn fat around the abdomen.

Typically, when we’re trying to lose weight (during a cut or otherwise) we strive for our bodies to burn fat for energy. Thankfully for you, Andarine S4 encourages this.

Since it speeds up fatty acid metabolism, you’re likely to lose weight fast while also being able to build muscle and experience increased strength, endurance and energy.

Whether you’re a seasoned lifter or bodybuilding newbie, a low body fat percentage is a common goal – one of which can be difficult to achieve. Usually, burning fat means some muscle loss, however, Andarine S4 is one of few SARMs that can do both.

May increase bone strength

Since its main use is to treat patients with muscle wasting and bone-related conditions, S4 Andarine has the ability to increase bone mineral density and bone strength.

This can not only help increase your stamina, but also help prevent injuries. However, these studies were carried out on rats – so I wouldn’t totally count on these benefits.

S4 SARM dosage

When it comes to S4 SARM dosage, there are several factors that need to be considered, these include:

  • Your age
  • Overall health
  • Other health conditions

However, since Andarine S4 hasn’t passed proper clinical trials or received approval from a regulation body, there isn’t necessarily a safe S4 SARM dosage.

Typically, users recommend keeping the dose low in order to try to avoid some of the word Andarine side effects. Many opt for a daily dosage of 25mg with five days on followed by two days off. This usually continues for around eight weeks.

For bulking, many opt to stack Andarine (at 50mg) with Testolone (10mg) daily for 12 weeks. While we cannot directly recommend a S4 SARM dosage safely, many users online recommend Andarine at different dosages.

As with any type of bodybuilding drug/steroid, it is recommended you head into post cycle therapy (PCT) after this cycle of Andarine.

Having been banned from all competitive sports in 2008, Andarine S4 has not been cleared as a legal bodybuilding supplement. So if you do decide to try and purchase Andarine S4 online or from a guy down the gym, you’ll quickly spot that it is marked ‘not fit for human consumption’ – take my advice and steer clear.

Andarine side effects

Since Andarine is an unapproved bodybuilding drug, the long term S4 SARM side effects aren’t entirely clear just yet.

While in theory, S4 SARM is said to be less damaging than anabolic steroids, this remains unproven. So what are the potential S4 SARM side effects? Since it hasn’t been fully researched (or considered fit for human consumption), Andarine side effects may include:

  • Liver damage
  • Heart attack risks
  • Stroke risk
  • Testosterone suppression
  • Visual issues, such as a yellow tint or trouble adjusting to night vision
  • Depression

According to studies, Andarine side effects included suppression of LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) when tested on rats.

To summarize, Andarine S4 has been banned for a reason. While previously used for medicinal purposes only, further limitations and side effects have not yet been explored in humans. Both long term benefits of Andarine and risks are unknown.

Is Andarine S4 worth it?

For professional bodybuilders, Andarine S4 may be considered a weaker, milder option with fewer side effects than anabolic steroids.

However, since this unsafe drug hasn’t been fully explored, there is no real knowledge on how it can affect the human body long term.

Of course, the benefits are clear, since it was developed with the intention of preventing muscle wasting – however, the bodybuilding community has unsafely adopted this popular SARM. In bodybuilding circles, testosterone suppression is a common concern, especially with the potential to lose your gains as quickly as they appeared if you avoid PCT.

Without enough scientific information and human studies, there’s no real knowledge regarding a safe S4 SARM dosage or its use long term.
